How to Prepare for Your Next Golf Outing or Vacation

Planning your next golf trip requires a lot of effort. There are many aspects to consider depending on how far you are going to be traveling. Many people make poor choices with regards to hotel and lodging. Oftentimes, a rental on a golf home is readily available to golf enthusiasts but they don\’t realize it.

It is important to get excited about the trip. We all love to golf right? Well, most of us do. Every time I plan a golf trip I can\’t taper my enthusiasm. My girl friend thinks I am crazy to get so excited to plan a golf trip. But, I love her anyway.

When I am planning my trip I always include my brother Charles and his friend Mike. We always have a hoot together. Plus, our wives get along. So, while we are on the links they are out shopping so it is a win win for all of us. Nothing like keeping the family happy right?

How can you choose a golfing location that fits your needs? Well, it really depends on how much time you have allocated for your golf vacation. I usually choose a location within a 3-4 hour drive. We typically don\’t fly so that we can afford more rounds of golf and the wives can go shop with a little extra money in their pocket. So, everyone wins.

Deciding where to stay is probably the most important aspect of your whole trip. Back in the day when we first started going on golf outings we stayed at a nice hotel or resort. Now we opt to rent a home on or near the course. Typically, we will get a 5-6 bedroom house and everyone will stay there. My brother even bought one of the homes we stayed in on one of our outings. Being on or near the greens is a good feeling. Plus, some late night beer drinking and driving on the range never hurts either.

Prices on golf homes? Well, with the economy tanking like it is most who purchased a golf home in southern california are feeling the pinch of the economy. We\’ve seen home prices for golf homes in Southern California come down to an all time low. So, some great deals can be found with a little bit of research.

Getting a golf trip together is a bit difficult until you get your system down. And, after 10 years of planning these trips, I\’ve got it down now. The Canary Islands are a lovely island chain situated in the Atlantic Ocean off the northwest coast of Africa. This autonomous Spanish archipelago plays host to a large number of tourists on an annual basis. The second most populous island of the chain, Gran Canaria, maintains a healthy tourist industry, and one of the major components of this income is the game of golf. Where are the popular places to play?

There really is not a bad time to play golf in Gran Canaria. The weather cooperates year round, allowing golfers to try their hand at obtaining a new low score whenever they wish. If you want to have the course a little more to yourself, however, you might want to go during the winter months which is the area\’s off season so to speak. Gran Canaria is home to the oldest golf club in all of Spain, and new players as well as experts enjoy a round on its course. Real Club de Golf de Las Palmas was inaugurated in December of 1891 and was the brainchild of Mackenzie Ross. Its green landscape rests comfortably at the foot of an extinct volcano, and this majestic mountain provides a panoramic view to golfers during play. The course is an 18-hole, par 71 adventure and there are instructors on site to help improve your game. A swimming pool and tennis courts also call the club home.

El Cortijo Club de Campo has hosted several championships and tournaments including the Senior and Women\’s Spanish Championships. It is an 18-hole, par 72 course that began entertaining guests in 2000. Though quite new, El Cortijo Club de Campo is already a favorite of guests of Gran Canaria. Blake Stirling and Marco Martin designed the course to provide a varied experience to players. Six tee locations are found on each hole, and a golf school, putting green, and bunker practice area are provided so that golf enthusiasts can improve their game.

Oasis Golf provides a fun round for those who have not been playing the game all that long. It is a small scale American-style course that carries a par of 54, enabling those working on their games a chance to encounter the typical golf course hazards without too much pressure. Las Palmeras Golf offers novices an 18-hole, par 3 course in order to hone their skills. With this variety of courses, it is no wonder that golf is rather popular in Gran Canaria.

Saint Andrews by the Sea represents one of the finest preserved examples of colonial heritage in Canada. Saint Andrews has maintained the qualities that have brought visitors for over a hundred years, and remains a city full of character, quality and charm.
